when I'm sitting here by myself
I can't help thinking this might be hell
they tell you to grow up get a job
an settle down
work hard everyday
just fill your wallet with that pay
don't you worry about free time son
it'll come around
just follow the rules and stay in line
listen to us and you'll be fine
we've been there done that
and soon you'll see
so I make food at a place
where I can't afford to eat
and something about that
ain't settling right with me
so when I wake up in the morning
no I ain't going to work
I'm going to pack my things and hit that road
well I'll just head on up to those
appalachian hills and let that
cold mountain water cleanse my soul
now I'm sitting here in this bar
with my friends and my guitar
and I'm thinking to myself
I've got it made
see that 9 to 5
lord that white collar life
well it just wasn't
something I could take
and I think I've done the best
some would say that I've been blessed
with this hand in life that I've been dealt
at the end of the day
I no longer stop and think
'cause I know I'm free
I'm not for sale
so when I wake up in the morning
no I ain't going to work
I'm going to pack my things and hit that road
well I'll just head on up to those
appalachian hills and let that
cold mountain water cleanse my soul
